This is an estimate only, built from USDA Market News averages and typical weight slides. It is not an appraisal, an offer or a guarantee of what any buyer will pay. Sale barns, freight, commission and sale-day demand all move the real number.
How the estimate works
The starting point is the USDA 5 Area weighted average price for fed cattle, or the national cow and bull report for culls. Feeder cattle are then run through a weight slide, because lighter calves always bring more per hundredweight than heavy ones. Breed type, sex and condition move the number the way they move it at a real sale.
A 550 lb calf at $250 per hundredweight is 5.5 × $250 = $1,375. That is all a per-cwt price means: dollars for every 100 pounds the animal weighs.
This is an estimate, not an appraisal or an offer. Freight, commission, sale-day demand and how the cattle look coming off the trailer all move the real check.
